These cookies (Samal, Bataan's best-selling product) are made from only the finest quality arrowroot (a white powder extracted from the root of a West Indian plant, Marantha arundinacea), rice flour, butter, egg sugar and other flavorings like cheese and cashew nuts, then baked into perfection. the texture of the cookie is somewhat 'chalky' because of the arrowroot (this white powder feels and looks like cornstarch). the cookie melts in your mouth (literally!)
